#Barbados, December 5, 2022 – Prime Minister of the Barbados, Mia Mottley, has yet again been recognised by a global media company as one of the most influential in the world, this time by British Business Newspaper Company, Financial Times as one of the 25 most influential women of 2022.

In describing the Barbados Prime Minister as “one of the most formidable leaders of her generation” and an “engineer of democracy,” Financial Times highlighted some of her key leadership moments.

“A lawyer who trained at the London School of Economics, Mottley won her first political seat at the age of 28.  At COP26 she made clear that the failure of industrialised states to meaningfully invest to halt climate change was catastrophic for the planet.

“Her speech was as inspiring as it was humbling, and citizens globally were gripped.  This year her “Bridgetown Agenda” to reform the international financial system offers real, practical solutions,” the magazine wrote.

Adding that: “her ability to speak truth to power is also apparent at home, where she oversaw the birth of Barbados as a republic, leaving its colonial past behind.  Mottley expects this term as premier to be her last; whatever she does next, the world is lucky to have her.”

The Financial Times’ influential list also recognises a host of women around the globe.  These include Ketanji Brown Jackson [US Supreme Court Justice], Francia Elena Márquez Mina [Vice-President of Colombia], Sherry Rehman [Climate Minister of Pakistan], Serena Williams [American Tennis Player] and American Musician, Billie Ellish, among others.

In May, Motley was featured on the cover of Time magazine for their 2022 edition of “100 Most Influential People of 2022” for her outspoken advocacy for addressing climate change.
