#TheBahamas, December 26, 2022 – Officials at the Bahamas Ministry of Education say addressing the learning loss is their main priority for the New Year.  The focus will be placed on ensuring both teachers and students have the necessary tools to succeed.

A test involving some 8,000 public school students is being conducted by Renaissance to help determine which students need the most help. The results should have been ready in November however, Acting Director of Education, Dominique Russell said it was delayed and is now expected in January 2023.

“They want to and they will be providing testing for our children and not only that, once we discover where our children are struggling, where all the remediation needs are, we also train teachers, providing training for those teachers so that they know how to provide the remediation opportunities,” Russell said.  He added that the process will be done online.

A survey has been conducted among teachers to find out their morale. Russell said it is also important that teachers are motivated so that students can receive a quality education.

Improvements will be made in the areas of Mathematics and Sports in the Arts.
