#Cuba, December 20, 2022 – Following a visit by Cambodia’s Secretary of State and spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Or Vandine, to Cuba, the Caribbean country has agreed to strengthen and foster its medical cooperation with the Asian country.

Vandine visited the island from December 11-19 to strengthen cooperation under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in September of this year between both countries.

During the visit, both countries discussed matters of common interest such as scientific and academic exchanges—mainly as regards the treatment of chronic non-communicable diseases such as cancer and diabetes—and the possibility of promoting talks between their regulatory authorities to facilitate the introduction in Cambodia of Cuban biotechnology products and to train Cambodian staff on their use.

According to Cuba’s Representative Office Abroad, the Cambodian Health Official said she was glad to visit the island to learn about its healthcare system.

“Vandine said she was glad to be on the Island to learn about its health care system and conveyed her government’s appreciation that Cambodian students can become doctors in Cuba’s medical schools, in line with her country’s intention to expand this service based on the Cuban experience,” it said.

Cuba also plans to send a team to visit Cambodia in 2023 for further discussions and to explore additional opportunities for cooperation.
