Cayman to get NEW Governor in 2023

#CaymanIslands, December 12, 2022 – A career diplomat, Jane Owen has been appointed Governor of the Cayman Islands in succession to Mr. Martyn Roper, who leaves next year.

Owen, who will take up her appointment in April 2023, is the current British ambassador for Switzerland and the non-resident ambassador to the neighbouring principality of Liechtenstein.

On her appointment, Owen said she was honoured to be appointed, and she looks forward to her new post.

“I am honoured and delighted to be appointed by His Majesty The King to be Governor of the Cayman Islands from April 2023.  I look forward to developing a close partnership with the elected government, and I will do my utmost to support the people of all three Islands of Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman,” she said.

Owen will be the second woman to hold the post of governor in the Cayman Islands.

The current governor, Mr. Roper, was appointed to the post in 2018 and was granted an extension on his tenure.
