December 20, 2022 – A Danish TV station is facing international ire after what many fans are calling racist remarks were made in relation to the history-making Moroccan football team. The fourth place finishers at the recently concluded World Cup, Morocco’s journey united Arab nations and African descendants worldwide as they cheered on the first African team to reach the semifinal stage in the tournament.

Elated with their finish some of the players launched themselves into their mothers arms at the end of their matches, dancing together on the green.

It was that heartwarming scene that TV 2 Denmark on Sunday compared to a picture of primates hugging. The display was live on air with one TV anchor holding up the offending photo showing monkeys huddling together in the cold, while the other made a comment likening them to the Moroccan players and their mothers. Several European news stations have also made outright Islamophobic comment towards the Moroccan team as they advanced to historic highs.

The TV station apologized in a tweet soon after saying that the picture had been held up to introduce the next segment. Despite the apology the comment had been met with audible giggles from those in the studio.
