#TurksandCaicos, November 22, 2022 – The Department of Agriculture has received numerous complaints regarding stray animals including dogs, goats and donkeys, which are becoming increasingly bothersome to the community.

The Department wishes to inform the general public that as part of its stray animal management program, immediate measures will be taken in areas with the highest number of queries on Providenciales and Grand Turk.

Animals found roaming without identifying marks will be considered as strays and appropriate actions will be taken in the interest of the general public.

  • The public is reminded that the tampering with or the destruction of the equipment such as cages, as is indicated in the picture below, of the Department is an offence and legal action will be taken if you are caught.

The Department encourages the general public to comply with the following guidelines to ensure the safety of your animal and prevent them from becoming a danger to others. When left unattended, animals become a nuisance to members of the community, destroy property, proving danger to road users and causing serious injuries to passerby’s:

  1. Have your animal identified with a collar or some other identifying mark
  2. Have your animals contained on your property to prevent roaming
  3. Provide food, water and housing to your animals
  4. Have animals spayed and neutered or otherwise altered to prevent unwanted and uncontrolled breeding
  5. Avoid feeding of roaming animals on your property to include hotels and restaurants, private homes as they may become a liability to you by causing injury to you or your guests or the general public of TCI
  6. Provide animal proof garbage receptacles at your premises, home and places of business
  7. Seek advice from your veterinarian to reduce the potential of disease spread and improve the wellbeing of the animals
  8. Seek advice from the Department on ways to care for your domestic and farm animals
