#TurksandCaicos, November 17, 2022 – At the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC) 20th General Assembly, Mrs. Rita Gardiner was one of six persons recognised by the body as a founding member.

Speaking on the commendation Gardiner says, “This process started back in 1998 in Melbourne Australia, with further talks in KL Malaysia. In 1999, CANOC was officially established in Barbados. Happy to have been one of the Trailblazers of this awesome Association that is doing great things for the region. I’m overwhelmed with this recognition from the Caribbean Region and thank Mr. Godfrey Been for accepting on my behalf today in Trinidad.”

Further representation of the Turks and Caicos Islands was present at the Assembly, as Ms. Edith Cox was re-elected as Treasurer for the CANOC Executive Committee 2022-26 unopposed.

We thank Mrs. Gardiner and Mrs. Cox for their efforts and actions taken over the years to spearhead and develop sports in the Turks and Caicos Islands and internationally.
