#TurksandCaicos, November 24, 2022 – Community policing initiatives across the Turks and Caicos Islands were much more visible in the past week as the island celebrated World Children’s Day.

Students were allowed to don hats and protective gear while they learned about policing at the Tourism Career Fair held in Grand Turk on Friday November 18th. Photos of the students show them excitedly trying on gear and holding defensive equipment.

This week, on Monday November 21st, on-duty officers kept a keen eye as they marched alongside students of the Ianthe Pratt Primary who were out for a community walk. The students charmed officers with a rendition of “Jesus Loves Me” as they trooped along on a mission to purchase plants for their classrooms.

Students of Shining Stars Preparatory also benefited from a visit on Monday. Police Constable Francis and Sergeant Mitchell of the RTCIPF provided tips on being Community Helpers as they worked to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community.

The RTCIPF have touted community policing as one of their major strategies for crime fighting this year as they hope to fix the relationship between them and a wary public. There have been repeated complaints of leaks in the force which the top brass is aware of and says they are taking measures to correct.
