November 17, 2022 – Preliminary investigations from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) reveal the missile that hit Poland, a NATO member, Tuesday afternoon killing two residents may not have come from Russia but Ukraine.

The Associated Press had reported that a U.S. official had indicated the missile came from Russia but the White House and NATO had indicated they were still investigating.

In a press conference on Wednesday Jens Stoltenberg, NATO Secretary General said Russia may not have fired the offending missile but were responsible anyway.

“Yesterday’s explosion took place as Russia launched a massive wave of rocket attacks across Ukraine” He said.  “Our preliminary analysis suggests that the incident was most likely caused by a Ukrainian air defense missile fired to defend Ukrainian territory against Russian missile attacks.  But let me be clear this is not Ukraine’s fault. Russia bears all the responsibility as it continues its illegal war against Ukraine.”

He maintained there was “no indication that this was the result of a deliberate attack and [there was] no indication that Russia is preparing offensive military actions against NATO” reaffirmed the alliances support for Ukraine and called on Russia to ‘stop the senseless war.

The announcement means while no Russian missile has ever hit NATO soil, the war has for the first time spilled into a neighboring country.
