#USA, November 2, 2022 – The 27th of October will now be recognised as “St Vincent and the Grenadines Heritage Day” in New York City.

The declaration was made by Mayor Eric Adams at an inaugural Flag Raising Ceremony in NYC in celebration of the country’s 43rd Anniversary of Independence on Thursday, October 27.

In making his proclamation, Mayor Adams thanked Vincentians and the immigrant community for continuing the City’s operations when it struggled to remain alive during the heights of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I remembered clearly during Covid when people were social distancing and staying at home and did not want to come out; it was the emerging immigration populations that kept this city running.”

While highlighting the beauty of the country, Adams also thanked St. Vincent and the Grenadines community in NYC for the contribution they have made so far.

“You’ve gotten preserved through difficult times including hurricanes, volcanoes, and eruptions.  You always find a way of just infusing the energy that’s needed to state that nothing can keep you back and as a resilient people and resilient country, you have brought that resiliency right here to the shores of America,” he stated.

October 27th is symbolic for St Vincent and the Grenadines as it is the day the island gained its independence from the United Kingdom.
