#BVI, November 28, 2022 – Former Premier of the British Virgin Islands Andrew Fahie officially resigned from the House of Assembly as First District Representative as of November 24. His resignation concludes his over 20-year tenure in representational politics on the island.

According to one of the country’s news entities, BVI News, the former Premier’s resignation and retirement from politics was announced in a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Corine George-Massicote.

In his letter, Fahie noted that his resignation was in respect to a ruling made by George-Massicote in July, where she had announced that she would not grant him leave of absence from the House.

In addition, Fahie also encouraged his colleagues to create a territory where young people can dream of being the next Speaker, clerk, attorney general, director of public prosecution, elected official, minister of government, Premier, governor, or governor-general.

Fahie, who was arrested in the United States in April at the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport on drug and money laundering charges, and recently, Interstate and Foreign Travel in Aid of Racketeering, remained the elected representative for the First District even though he was absent from sittings.

His trial is set to take place in a Florida court on January 9, 2023.
