#Belize, November 14, 2022 – After examining the damages caused by Hurricane Lisa in the Belize district, the government says they need US $20 million to rebuild the communities.  On November 2,  2022, Hurricane Lisa made landfall just south of Belize City as a category 1 storm.

Foreign Minister, Eamon Courtenay and Prime Minister, John Briceno who flew over the damaged areas and made a guess estimate of US $10 million. Briceno later said the Minister of Housing was doing a house to house assessment from which they came up with the US $20 million figure.

This sum will also include the rebuilding of the Phillip Goldson High which was also devastated by Hurricane Lisa.

Having noted that most of the destroyed homes were made with plywood, Briceno said that the plan is to rebuild using more durable materials.

The Prime Minister said funds have already been made available to some area representatives to assist the affected citizens as they try to bring the city back to its normal state of affairs.

Belize recorded no deaths as a result of the hurricane.
