#TurksandCaicos, October 29, 2022 – Copious amounts of hard drugs including cocaine were only some of the spoils of successful police operations in the Turks and Caicos’ over the past two-weeks, this is according to police Trevor Botting, TCI Police Commissioner in a statement made Wednesday morning.  The top cop gave a rundown of the operations.

Along with vehicle checks tickets and removal of  illegal tints there were “Twenty drug searches, eight persons [were] detained under Immigration legislation; four warrants [were]executed in relations to searches for firearms; two firearms and ammunition [were] seized; large quantity of drugs [were] seized including cannabis, cocaine and amphetamines; seven persons arrested for drugs and firearms offences; laptops and cell phones seized for examination and Joint Police and Immigration operation resulted in the detention of 21 people believed to be working illegally” Botting said.

The operations were carried out with support from the Royal Bahamas Police Force and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration as well as the UK carrying out their national security duties; all collaborations which the Commissioner expects to continue well into the future.

“Officers on the ground continue to be supported through our aerial colleagues from US Law Enforcement and UK Royal Navy Wildcat helicopters— We have strong collaborative relationships with our US colleagues and I anticipate that their support will continue into the future,” he maintained.

Despite a relatively quiet two weeks, Botting revealed there had been an attempted robbery and one shooting had taken place.  Fortunately the would-be robbers failed in their bid and the shooting is still being investigated.

The Police Commissioner would not know that mere hours after his update, there would be another fatal shooting.  One man killed, two others struck and one of them seriously.

There remained no new information on the individuals arrested in early October and the charges to be brought against them if any.
