#USA, October 28, 2022 – Children in the US are getting sick earlier than they usually would as multiple respiratory diseases hit the country at once.  The US Centers for Disease Control made the announcement on October 14th.

“There are early increases happening in most of the country.  This increased activity could signal an early start to flu season,” it said.

In addition, the percentage of people visiting health centers for respiratory illness is at an unusually high level, the CDC revealed. It’s the first time the percentage has been above 2.5 since the outbreak of H1N1 in 2009.  Already reports are mounting of the flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), parainfluenza viruses, adenoviruses, rhinoviruses and enteroviruses infecting children.

It says children are especially at risk thanks to being sheltered in lockdowns because of Covid.

“Reduced population immunity, particularly among young children who may never have had flu exposure or been vaccinated, could bring about a robust return of flu.”  The CDC warned

Pediatric expert Micheal Koster told ABC News, “We are seeing patients coming from over 100 miles away, because their local pediatric hospital is full or has closed,”

Good Morning America reported pediatric bed capacity It is at a two-year high and some hospitals are considering field stations to handle the influx of sick children.
