#Freeport, GB, The Bahamas, October 29, 2022 – Another electricity company in the Bahamas has announced that it will be increasing its fuel charge next month.

The Grand Bahama Power Company (GBPC) made the announcement on Monday, October 17, almost two weeks after Prime Minister Phillip Davis announced that the Bahamas Power and Light company will increase its fuel charge.

Starting November 1, some 18,800 customers could see the fuel portion of their bill increase by about $5 if they consume 350 kWh or more a month.

According to GBPC, the rise is a reflection of the rise in global oil prices over the past year.

GBPC’s announcement comes at a time when residents of Grand Bahama are struggling due to inflation and are still trying to put the pieces back together after Hurricane Dorian devastated the island three years ago.

So far, residents have been expressing their concerns over the increase, with one person noting that: “It’s wrong to do it at this point.”
