#TurksandCaicos, October 29, 2022 – The TCI is confirmed to be one of the countries affected by a major Pine Sol recall after an affected bottle found its way into a resident’s kitchen cabinet.  It was purchased in Grand Turk.

The inconspicuous bottle of cleaning solution was one of 37 million currently under recall by Clorox under suspicion of contamination.  Magnetic Media received confirmation that the bottle was bought in the TCI, which means the contaminated batch is in stock in the islands.

The US Consumer Product Safety Commission said “testing has identified bacteria in certain recalled products, including those produced between January 2021 and September 2022.”

The bacteria in question: is Pseudomonas aeruginosa, an environmental organism found widely in soil and water.  It especially affects people with weakened immune systems or external medical devices.  It can cause infections in the blood, lungs (pneumonia), or other parts of the body according to the CDC.

The bacteria can enter the body if inhaled, through the eyes, or through a break in the skin.

Pine Sol products are incredibly popular across the US and the Caribbean.

The eight affected bottles include Pine-Sol Scented Multi-Surface Cleaners in Lavender Clean, Sparkling Wave, and Lemon Fresh scents, CloroxPro Pine-Sol All Purpose Cleaners, in Lavender Clean, Sparkling Wave, Lemon Fresh, and Orange Energy scents, and Clorox Professional Pine-Sol Lemon Fresh Cleaners.  Original Pine-Sol (Pine scent) is not included in this recall.

Recalled bottles have date codes beginning with the prefix “A4” followed by a five-digit number less than 22249.

The CPSC Consumers should take pictures of the 12 digit UPC code and the date code, dispose of the product in its container with household trash, and contact Pine-Sol for a full refund of the purchase price.
