Can Joe Biden get Brittney Griner out of Russian prison?

#Russia, October 28, 2022 – After her appeal against her conviction was denied in court earlier today basketball star Brittney Griner will have no choice but to spend the next nine years in a Russian prison; unless US President Joe Biden can get the Russians to agree to his prisoner swap.

The star’s lawyers had said the sentence was too harsh and Griner had not aimed to break law, maintaining that any criminal intent was erroneously established by the prosecution.

State-controlled Russian media house TASS is reporting that Biden wants to get Griner released before the midterm elections in November but its ‘not a priority for Moscow’

Kremlin Aide Yury Ushakov told a local station, “In this tense situation, I think that he is thinking first and foremost about the upcoming midterm elections so he keeps emphasizing the need to bring back home the basketball player who was detained for drug smuggling. However, it’s not the main issue that we are concerned about.”

On the flip side, Ambassadors have promised that they are trying to get the proposed swap for Griner, Victor Bout home quickly.

Midterm elections are set for November 8th only days away.
