#TurksandCaicos, September 14, 2022 – Cabinet, yesterday announced that September 19, 2022, will be a National Day of Mourning in the Turks and Caicos Islands, to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This coincides with Her Late Majesty’s State Funeral in London, United Kingdom.

As we commemorate Her Majesty, the Department of Environment and Coastal Resources have deemed it appropriate to postpone this weekend’s International Coastal Clean-up Day event.

As such, International Coastal Clean-up Day 2022 will now be on October 8th, 2022 from 07:00 – 09:00am.

You, your school, your business, and/or your organization can get involved by getting a group together and spending an hour out of your day cleaning up a beach, bushy area, path, road, or sea-bed in your local area.

You can also join the DECR at the following locations on the 8th of October, should you want to join a group from 07:00-09:00:

Kid’s Park, Lower Bight Road, Provo Beach Access, Danny’s Cafe, Middle Caicos
Blue Hills Dock, Provo The Creek, Salt Cay
Governor’s Beach, Grand Turk Entrance to Kew, COGOP Church, North Caicos
School for Field Studies, South Caicos

Show you care for the TCI’s natural environment by getting involved in International Coastal Clean-up Day! Together we can fight for trash-free seas, on Saturday, October 8. It doesn’t matter where you are, just grab a bag and collect that litter! **Want to help out but unable to clean-up on the day? Chat to Amy regarding donation of supplies (trash bags, gloves etc)!

Garbage drop-off points will be established an communicated once you are registered. Please note that if you / your school / your organization plan to participate at another location that we ask for your assistance in disposing of the collected garbage bags.

Register yourself, your group or organization with the DECR, by emailing aavenant@gov.tc and pledge your commitment to save our seas!
