#Barbados, August 20, 2022 – As of Friday, Barbadians are paying the same price for diesel and gasoline at the pump for the next six months.

Barbadians will pay no more than $4.48 per litre for gas or $4.03 per litre for diesel from August 19 to January 31, 2023, regardless of what is happening on the international market.

The announcement was made this week by Prime Minister of Barbados Mia Mottley during a public address to the nation.

“We will now place a cap on the price of gasoline and the price of diesel at the pump, and we will hold to that higher price until the 31st of January. To be very precise, if the prices fall below that cap, all of those reductions will be passed through to the consumer. If the prices go above that cap, the Government will hold the line and keep the cap in place,” Mottley said.

Mottley noted that the adjustment was necessary to give some level of predictability to consumers and those whose livelihood depended on gasoline and diesel.

This is the second time in less than six months that the Government has put a cap on gas and diesel at the pump.
