#TurksandCaicos, August 4, 2022 – The PDM has publicly thrown its support behind radio personality Crissy Pratt in her protest against the medical system in the Turks and Caicos and says her case is sufficient to warrant independent investigation.

PDM leader Edwin Astwood, who is a former minister of Health said in a letter to the media

“I applaud Ms. Crissy Pratt for speaking out about her medical situation and her interactions with our healthcare services.”

He said Pratt contacted him in his capacity as Minister of Health and the information shared was ‘very alarming’.

Pratt won a case against the National Health Insurance Board recently where she had claimed that the NHIP fell so far below standard that she had a deceased patients file along with their NHIP and Date of Birth issued to her as her own.  Pratt, who was able to prove that while attending doctor in the Dominican Republic, she discovered the serious error charges it led to incorrect medical treatment by doctors in the DR.

The Insurance Board  released a statement saying that Pratt chose not to take the initial settlement because of concerns over clauses in the agreement. Pratt says that she chose not to sign because it contained a  ‘Non-Disclosure clause’ and she wanted the public to know the extent of the health board’s negligence.

Crissy Pratt has long maintained, someone needs to stand up for those who cannot when it comes to the health care system in the country.

Edwin Astwood claimed he had pushed Pratt’s case to the highest levels including the Permanent Secretary of Health, top management from the TCI Hospitals and the Ministry of Health’s consultant from the UK but has heard no developments from the case since.

He also claimed to be witness to a threat of prosecution from the Complaints Commission against Pratt
