Man Charged with Conspiracy to import firearms into Jamaica

#Jamaica, August 22, 2022 – A 51-year-old businessman, Godfrey Martin was charged on Wednesday, August 17 with conspiracy to illegally import firearms and ammunition into Jamaica.

The charges were laid against Martin in connection to a March 4 incident where 18 handguns and three rifles were seized at a warehouse in the parish of Kingston after customs agents noticed anomalies.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force said Martin’s arrest has put a major dent in the illegal firearms trade as he is described as the mastermind behind the recent illegal importation of 21 guns into the island.

Martin was arrested in St. Ann on August 7 by detectives assigned to the Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Branch at an entertainment event in the parish.

The 51-year-old is to appear in the Gun Court on September 16
