#TurksandCaicos, August 25, 2022 – The recent two-week “Camp Success” cadet camp was reminiscent of its name as the cadets and the adults involved all agreed the event was incredible.

The annual summer training camp was in its sixth year of operation and the 2022 staging was held at Louise Garland Thomas High.

For two weeks cadets participated in drills, grueling 5 a.m. training sessions, and activities including the annual Iron Chef cook-off, inter-platoon drill competition, and overnight training activities designed to test and improve their knowledge and skill.

Camp Success ended with a parade attended by the Governor, Minister of Education, and other dignitaries and officers.  Governor Nigel Dakin described the Cadet Corp as an amazing youth organization that was,  “Full of young people brimming with confidence, leadership potential, and a desire to serve.”  He said, “I wasn’t the only one to reflect that there may well be a future national leader in their ranks, but leaders and role models they all surely are.”

The Turks and Caicos Cadet Corp was reintroduced in 2014 under the leadership of MP Akierra Missick during her time as Education Minister.  It has since grown in number and is open to any high school-age child across the islands.
