#TurksandCaicos, August 4, 2022 – The Incredible backlog in long waiting times for a police record should be resolved in about four weeks according to the Governor’s  Appointed Member, Harold Charles.

Charles, who was speaking in the House of Assembly on Tuesday, July 26, explained that he had been in communication with the Deputy Commissioner of Police.

“[He] assured me that his department is working on addressing the backlog and the delay in accessing police records.  I was assured that the long wait for the payment of police records, the long wait for receipts to be generated, and the long long wait to collect police records will soon be a thing of the past.”

He added that new employees and the new office facilities to facilitate the public were also on the way.

The police have made promises like this before however.  Back in February the police promised that they could get the wait time from months to 21 days while they cleared the backlog.  Then they said with no backlog, the wait time for character certificates would have been cut down to 14 days.

Unfortunately that backlog seems not to have been cleared yet.

Charles said that the Royal TCI Police Records Office is aware that the long wait times were holding up the renewal of licenses, work permits, PRC applications and other documents and would be working diligently to fix it.
