#TheBahamas, July 6, 2022 – As The Bahamas gears up to monetize “Carbon Credits” via the Climate Change and Carbon Markets Initiatives Bill, the Government’s leading body on the topic is inviting Bahamian residents and businesses to learn more about how the Bill can help the country and provide opportunities for them.

On July 6th, at 8:30 PM, the Climate Change and Environmental Advisory Unit within the Office of the Prime Minister will be hosting a hybrid town hall. The town hall will feature Special Advisor on Climate Change and Environmental Matters, Rochelle Newbold and Climate Change Advisor, N. Charles Hamilton, who will provide an overview of the Bill, how carbon markets work, and how the launch of the Bill will expand opportunities for the country and the people of The Bahamas.

Audiences are invited to tune in and participate on television or Facebook. The town hall will air on all local television stations and live on Facebook at OPM Bahamas, the Climate Change and Environmental Advisory Unit, and Eyewitness News Bahamas’ pages.

CCEAU also encourages Bahamians to send their questions and feedback on the Bill to: feedback@bahamas.gov.bs or Facebook at the Climate Change and Environmental Advisory Unit’s page.

Next week, CCEAU will also host the Regional Conference of Youth on Climate

Change under the theme: “One Ocean. One Climate. One Future. Our Collective Pathway To COP27 – Centering Caribbean Youth In Climate Action.” This inaugural youth conference, to be hosted by The Bahamas, will facilitate dialogue and action planning with young people on the impacts of climate change on small island developing states and least developed countries.
