#TurksandCaicos, July 6, 2022 – For the first time Turks and Caicos residents will have full online access to the laws of their home country with the passing of a motion in the House of Assembly to digitize the laws of the land.

Rhondalee Braithwaite Knowles, QC, Attorney-General explained the motion provided for the preparation and publication of the revised laws to now be free to access in even more ways

“The Cabinet has made the decision that in terms of the laws which are kept up to date and available on the Attorney General’s website and are updated as they are passed in the house of assembly and as they are made by the cabinet, that will be free from any kind of protected restriction.”

This means residents are now free to copy, paste and print. She described it as an important milestone. Prior to this the laws were not available to be printed nor could they be copied and pasted just so.

“It makes things much, much easier for people who want to understand the law of the land,” Braithwaite-Knowles explained

Additionally there will be custom jump drives available for purchase by citizens replacing the CDs that the law used to be stored on.

The Bill received commendations from the Premier and Leader of the Opposition both expressing thanks on behalf of the TCI residents.

Akierra Missick, an attorney and government leader of business in the House of Assembly, expressed her pleasure at the new developments.

“Unless you had a friend who was a lawyer who had them on CD you would be hindered by using the cut feature on your laptop [to print] so when the AG said they would be fully functional I was jubilant.”

The Revised Edition of the Laws will be consolidated and made available to residents on July 18th.
