#TurksandCaicos, July 25, 2022 – The Bahamas has the best junior and intermediate swimmers in the English-speaking Caribbean, so podium finishes within this elite class of athletes is a validating experience. For Lenin Hamilton Jr, it was particularly rewarding as he not only walked away with medals in all his events but was second overall in his 11-12 age group and his sisters performed impressively as well.
The Bahamas Aquatics National Swim Competition was held over four days during the July 10 Independence holiday weekend in Nassau at the Betty Kelly Kenning Swim Complex; the program is celebrating 50 Years and the medals adorned by young swimmers boasted a dazzling design in commemoration.
The brother and sisters trio swam with the Mako Aquatics Club, led by head coach Trevano McPhee which topped the points and earned 2,011; its nearest contender – Grand Bahama’s YMCA WaveRunners – was outpaced in the pool by 368 points to hold second place.
For the Hamiltons, the haul was huge.
Leniah Hamilton, Girls 8&U earned a silver medal in the 200m medley and a bronze medal as part of the team in the 200m medley mixed relay.
Lenika Hamilton, Girls 9-11 also medalled in the relays; silvers in the 200m medley and the 200m mixed medley.
Lenin Hamilton, Boys 11-12 brought home a medal in all seven of his events which included golds and silvers in the 50m backstroke; 100m fly; 200m free relay and the 100m backstroke.
Overall, a dozen medals, runner up trophy and a winning team coached by their father Lenin Hamilton Sr, of TCI Aquatics Swim Club, which is based in Providenciales.
