Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force Investigates Death at The Immigration Detention Centre on Providenciales

#TurksandCaicos, June 6, 2022 – On Monday June 6th, 2022, at 2:08pm a report was made to 911 Control Centre that a female at the Immigration Detention Centre, was experiencing medical distress and appeared unresponsive. The patient was transported to the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre where she was later pronounced dead by a medical practitioner. As a result of this death a full investigation has commenced by officers of the Serious Crimes Unit of the RT&CIPF to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.

Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr. Rodney Adams stated: “On behalf of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, I would like to express condolences to the family and friends of the deceased as well as the entire Haitian community on TCI.

I have this evening met with partners from the Ministry of Immigration and Border Services along with our Executive Team and the acting Head of the Serious Crime Unit. I am assured that inquiries are progressing and an initial report will be with the coroner tomorrow Tuesday 7th June, 2022.

At the conclusion of the investigation the RT&CIPF will issue a further statement.”
