June 15th was a good day for Ukraine, as both the US and Canada announced they would be sending more weapons to the country to aid in their fight against Russia in a Ukraine Defense Contact Group meeting.

Canada is sending 10 more barrels for the M777 Howitzer artillery guns they sent to Ukraine earlier this year. Canada sent 4 of those guns to the military in Ukraine but the barrels must be replaced regularly if their accuracy is to be maintained.

These 10 replacements will come at a cost of 9 million dollars Canadian media reports say. During that meeting, the US also pledged 1 billion dollars in weapons to Ukraine. The assistance will take the form of direct transfers of equipment from the Department of Defense to the Ukrainian military, says the White House.

The new assistance package from the US includes anti-aircraft systems, anti-tank weapons, grenade launchers, rifles, pistols, machine guns, shotguns, body armor, helmets, and ammunition.

There was no concrete date set for the weapons to be transferred.
