#TurksandCaicos, May 19, 2022 – Some TCI residents are upset that the Government is focusing on what they think is not a pertinent enough matter, the side of the road that residents currently drive on.  Minister of PPID Akeirra Misick revealed the issue had come up in discussions between herself and the Deputy Premier as to whether the country should shift from driving on the left, to legalize driving on the right as is done in the US.

“The Deputy Premier and I are possibly considering the importation of right-hand vehicles vs left-hand vehicles…a decision would need to be taken in the infrastructure development need as it stands, you have some people driving on one side and others on the other and this is creating a bit of concern.”

The motive for the discussion was unclear; whether due to accidents or other road user reasons.  She only commented, “This is something we will have to look at, whether we will stay on the left side or the right side.”

Residents say they fear the adjustment is being made to facilitate tourists, which is displeasing and they insist that the change is unnecessary.
