#TurksandCaicos, May 19, 2022 – Healthcare needs to be improved in the Turks and Caicos islands, says Leader of the Opposition Edwin Astwood. The Member of Parliament for Grand Turk South and former minister of health, was speaking during the budget debates.

“Our HealthCare System is not first-class, it is a work in progress but it is not there yet…If it was the TCI would have not been spending millions of dollars every month on Treatment abroad, so cut out the misinformation,” Astwood said in response to the budget.

Premier Washington Misick maintained that the TCIG was improving the health system by “engaging with potential key network partners to expand access to quality, affordable treatment abroad.”

The opposition leader also criticized what he described as the ‘secrecy’ with which the IMF visit was handled, querying why the reason for the meeting had not been made public to the people of the TCI prior to the debates.

The Opposition Leader maintained that the people had ‘a right’ to government information in the TCI.
