#TheBahamas, May 24, 2022 – Olympian Pauline Davis presented 450 copies of her book, ‘Running Sideways: The Olympic Champion Who Made Track and Field History’ to the Ministry of Education, and Technical and Vocational Training, Monday, May 23, 2022.

“My story shares some of the ups and downs, the challenges and sacrifices that go into success,” said Ms. Davis. “It is my hope that the students of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas would find the time to read the book and in some way be encouraged, inspired to achieve their dreams and in the process make their contribution to nation building.

“The story confirms that it does not matter where you start in life, all that matters is how you finish.”

She said, each and every single one of us has a role to play in the building of our great Bahamaland, “not just here in The Bahamas, in the region, but most importantly the world.”

The two-time gold medalist expressed appreciation to the Bahamas Government and the people of The Bahamas for their generosity to her.

The Hon. Zane Lightbourne, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, and Technical & Vocational Training accepted the books on behalf of the Hon. Glenys Hanna-Martin, Minister of Education, and Technical & Vocational Training, Monday, May 23, 2022 at a ceremony at the Ivy Dumont Building, University Drive.

State Minister Lightbourne thanked Ms. Davis for her “authentic” Bahamian story of tribulations, trials and triumphs.

The Hon. Mario Bowleg, Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture participated in the ceremony. Also in attendance: Lorraine Armbrister and Eugene Poitier, Permanent Secretaries; Dr. Marcellus Taylor, Director; Montez Williams, Undersecretary; Magistrate Linda Virgil, family and friends of Ms. Davis.
