May 27, 2022 – Both Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago are considering and exploring the possibility of a cargo-ferry service that will transport people and food between both countries.
During the time of this announcement on Sunday, both Foreign Affairs Ministers, Hugh Todd from Guyana and Amery Browne from Trinidad and Tabago signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
This will “remove non-tariff barriers and explore addressing several areas of concern that can impact the morning agricultural and agro-processing sectors.”
Discussions have already started re the “Cargo Plus Ferry Facility,” said Guyana’s President, Mohammed Ali. At the same time, he highlighted that Guyana and Trinidad cannot have any issues unless they create the platform or the vehicles that allow such. He was also very pleased with the signing of the agreement and advised the ministers to approach it differently.
The signing of the MOU came as the Agri Investment Forum in Guyana concluded.
