#USandCarribean, April 7, 2022 – The Atlantic Hurricane Season is officially eight weeks away  but that’s no comfort as Meteorologists at AccuWeather say there is a high chance of pre-season storms developing and the season itself might be a very active one.

AccuWeather is a 60-year-old media company that provides weather forecasting services worldwide.

“An above-normal season in terms of tropical activity in the Atlantic, as well as a higher-than-normal chance that a major hurricane could make landfall in the mainland United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S Virgin Islands,”said Dan Kottlowski, lead Hurricane expert.

The prediction is worrying to the rest of the Caribbean just because of the proximity alone.

Global warming is again partially to blame as the seas warm up hurricanes might start developing earlier than they used to and more than they used to.

“Kottlowski’s team is forecasting 16-20 named storms and six to eight hurricanes. Of those hurricanes, about three to five are forecast to reach major hurricane status, which occurs when a storm reaches Category 3 strength with winds exceeding 111 mph or higher,” the Accuweather website says.

The big take away from this report, meteorologists say, is to “prepare prepare, prepare.”
