#TurksandCaicos, April 15, 2022 – The recent uptick of violence in Five Cays was imported to the community according to Nigel Dakin, TCI Governor and Co-chair the National Security Council.

In referencing the recent shootouts from April 6-8, the Governor spoke directly to the residents in an Instagram post saying, “To the law abiding particularly at the moment in Five Cays what you have experienced is wholly unacceptable, you know that this level of crime has been imported into your community I’ll say more about this when the police operation is over.”

Dakin in an Instagram hinted at covert operations by the Police and noted that he would reveal more to the public once the operations were complete.

To the perpetrators he had a warning: “if you are involved in criminality and are confronted by our tactical unit it would be in your interest to lie down with your arms outstretched in front of you and comply.

They [the police] are better trained, better equipped and better motivated than you and given the threat they work under they will protect themselves and their colleagues and the public from you.”

He commended residents in the TCI for their cooperation with the force saying, “We know what we know because of a community combination of community engagement and intelligence development and for those of you being active you are making a massive difference.”
