April 29, 2022 – An emergency meeting was called for today after the shocking news broke of the arrest by the DEA of the BVIs premier.

An undercover operation by the US Drug Enforcement Agency seems to have caught the country leader in the act; embattled BVI Premier Andrew Fahie reportedly thought he was negotiating with a Mexican cartel, but they were undercover operatives for the DEA.

Today, Fahie and the head of Ports for the British Virgin Islands were taken into custody in Miami Florida by US authorities after allegedly posing as cocaine traffickers, trying to smuggle some 700 thousand dollars out of the US to the BVI, said a Miami Herald report.

The UK Foreign Secretary is confirming the arrest in an official statement issued around 4pm.

She also confirms the charges are drug trafficking and money laundering, saying she is “appalled by these serious allegations,” this arrest said Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, “demonstrates the importance of the recently concluded Commission of Inquiry.”

The emergency meeting in the BVI will be led the UK overseas territory governor and will include the BVI Cabinet.

Next steps will be announced tomorrow said Secretary Truss.
