#TheBahamas, March 22, 2022 – Ukraine has turned its attention to the Caribbean to The Bahamas specifically with a plea for them to impose harsher sanctions against Russia.

The Caribbean nation which is home to about $3 billion dollars in Russian investments has already warned financial institutions off doing business with the 121 sanctioned Russian entities, in country but now more is being asked of The Bahamas.

In an exclusive report published in the Nassau Guardian on Monday, Ukrainian Mayor Mykhailo Positko wrote a letter with firm resolve.

“We are grateful to your country for the support of Ukraine, by your actions you are also courageously resisting the world violence.”

But more needed to be done says the Ukrainian mayor. He urged the country to sever all economic, social and political ties with what he described as the “aggressor” country.

“Any cooperation with Russia is unpleasant for countries where the value of human life, sovereignty and independence are a priority.”

Positko isn’t the only one making the audacious demand.

Ukrainian Member of Parliament, Yelyzaveta Yasko a member of the Vladimir Zelensky led Servant of the People Party, called for a full blockade of the navigation to and from Russia.

Singling out The Bahamas, she said they should not allow any Russian vessels including yachts of oligarchs to fly the Bahamian flag.

The Bahamas is the world’s largest third largest ship registry, with a fleet of 1,500 vessels registered.

Inna Sovsun, a member of the Vladimir Zelensky led Servant of the People Party warned:  “Russian elite like to use tax havens in various ways to hide their assets … if the Bahamas sanction these assets that would be a good strike against Russian elites.”

The general consensus from the MPs who attended a zoom call with Bahamian media said that Russia needed to be expelled from the supply chain cycle of the world.
