March 3, 2022 – A new strain of coronavirus has been found in deer and a genetically similar strain was found in a person who had close contact with those deer in Ontario Canada, but Canada’s public health agency told the Guardian it was likely an isolated case.
In this report we learned that the strain was found in a population of white tailed deer in Ontario after researchers collected 300 samples in late 2021.
Seventeen of the deer tested positive for the strain as did a person who lived in the same area and had close contact with the deer population.
There is no confirmation that the deer actually infected the human subject and the study has not yet been peer reviewed.
