Nine Farmers tap into $180,000 in Investment Funding, says Minister Connolly

#TurksandCaicos, March 15, 2022 – Only five weeks since the Agriculture Forum was held and on Thursday, during her Ministerial Statement, Hon Josephine Connolly revealed farmers on the islands of North and Middle Caicos are approved for significant grants to support their agri-businesses.

The government’s Agriculture Forum was led by the Department of Agriculture and the Invest Turks and Caicos Agency.  It was designed to familiarize the Farmers with the Turks and Caicos Agro-Grant initiative. That initiative introduced through two meetings held in early February have since seen the approval of nine grants.

“So far, through my Department of Agriculture nine farmers were just approved for grants totaling $180,000. And through the MSME Program seven farmers were approved for grants totaling $130,000.” Connolly revealed.

The announcement was well received and according to the Minister of Tourism, with responsibility for agriculture, it moves TCI closer to its goal of improving food security.

“Mr. Speaker, more to come because we have big plans for agriculture.”

Also announced was that the new director of agriculture is already at work.

Magnetic Media has learned that now returned to the Turks and Caicos Islands is Wilhelmina Kissoonsingh, chief architect of the TCIs Agriculture policy.
