National Press Conference announced as Premier speaks live on Cabinet decisions on Rising Cost of Living

#TurksandCaicos, March 11, 2022 – On Tuesday, Hon Washington Misick will command national attention as residents are waiting with bated breath to hear what mitigation Government has planned to soften the blow of the soaring cost of living; the Premier of the Turks and Caicos Islands has announced he will hold a press event on Tuesday March 15, 2022.

“Measures to ameliorate the burdens of households and small businesses in this environment are being considered. Following the meeting of Cabinet on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, the Government will announce its plans.”

That Cabinet meeting is in the history books now.

The Turks and Caicos will no doubt be impacted by the conflict in the Ukraine, the elected government on Thursday March 3, from the SICA Summit in Belize issued a statement breaking  silence on the battle in the Ukraine, which has gripped the world and outraged millions.

Despite crippling sanctions, Russia has not backed down and says it has no intention of backing out.  This is also the message from the Ukranians, who have showed incredible resolve and efficiency against the Russian military, sadly going their battle alone, the international community committing trying to support with weapons, no manpower.

The TCI Government through the Office of the Premier says it is deeply concerned about the turn of events in the Ukraine, adding that TCI is in solidarity with the Heads of State of CARICOM and the International Community in denouncing these actions by Russia.

Food prices and oil prices are among the commodities forecast to surge in cost. The Premier says, the government is working on a plan and we will know more soon.

Fuel suppliers in The Bahamas and Turks and Caicos have recommended the government suspend taxes, as it is the only cost which can be controlled.
