#TheBahamas, March 28, 2022 – This is one of those days where you gatta look life right in the eyeball and say, “GOD’s got me anyhow…”

A legend has left us and FHS, FAHS, BMES Warriors across the world will pause and reflect on those moments when you had an encounter with Anita Doherty.

It had to be epic, right, because Mrs D… she is unforgettable; every memory of her is an impacting one.

She listened.

She advised.

She made you stand tall by ensuring you knew you could.

She crafted her own language, and if you were anyone on your way anywhere who dipped even slightly below the standard, then you got wapped with at least one of her infamous Askadda fadda maddas…and it had the power to uncloud your vision and pop you back on track!

Askadda fadda madda 🙁Mrs D.

This lady defied odds and shattered ceilings.

She was my friends’ mummy or auntie or sister or cousin or mentor or wife!

The green-gray eyes pierced ya soul and were equal to Wonder Woman’s lasso… you told the truth, fessed up and not because you had to but because you wanted to… you could tell her anything!  No judgement just perspective and wise instruction and pounding logic!  You catch sense fast after a chat with Anita!

Her door was never closed except when one of us was in there; how’d we fit in there!  Thousands of Warriors have been in there.

She walked the campus.  She travelled with teams. She cheered us on by not expecting less than our best.

A shout, which you could hear for miles I think and would have qualified for one of these modern day conditions that mess kids up for life…but the only condition those shouts caused was positive action, deep admiration and reverential respect.

You didn’t mess with Mrs D. We were blessed by Mrs D.

We spoke recently she and I… and I loved it and hated it. She seemed to be saying goodbye. I felt it. She told me things I cherish extra today. She made sure I knew. I could tell she wanted to make sure I knew. And she said to me, the legend said to me: THANK YOU!

So now as I think about the woman who put me in the Audio Visual Media room when I quit accounts class, as if she could see my future even though I was only 17 years old… I’ve gotta cry and I realize I wasn’t so bad in her eyes cause man I was mischievous … and she admires who I’ve become.

And today, I get to think and reflect and laugh and smile amidst tears….… and I cling to the memories and other Warriors and Pilots and Anchors who feel this loss, a giant loss because Mrs D is gone now… spent her time doing the most important work, investing her life to develop children in The Bahamas… Grand Bahama’s daughter, ever cherished, never forgotten.

The Uncompromising, Unforgettable Anita Doherty; Warrior4Life!
