#TurksandCaicos, March 21, 2022 – There is a process that many of those people with deferred applications including students will be able to go through in order to get their $500 stimulus says E. Jay Saunders, Minister of Finance Invesment and Trade for the Turks and Caicos Islands.

Saunders, speaking in the House of Assembly updated on the stimulus program.

Of the 13,094 applications, 11,481 were approved. Two-hundred and twenty two (222) or two per cent were duplicate applications and 67 were declined. The remaining 1,324, or  10 per cent were applicants deferred.

“I would like to point out that deferred is not the same as declined.” He continued.  “We have a process that we will use in order to help many of those applicants to receive a similar stimulus so I want those persons to know we have not forgotten them.”

Speaking directly to Magnetic Media about deferrals, Deputy Premier Saunders said there is no need to extend the distribution time for Inflation Stimulus cheque payouts to this category of applicants.

Deferred applicants, which were largely students over 18 years old, who lacked some of the requisite documents, would come later in the payment schedule.

The Deputy Premier encouraged residents, including young adults, to make the time to apply and get their government IDs; cited as a reason for many deferrals.
