March 12, 2022 – He is pushing for a fourth shot and in the long distance, he believes annual vaccination against Covid-19 would become the norm. That announcement or reveal came on CBSs Face the Nation this past Sunday where Albert Bourla, CEO of Pfizer said a fourth shot of his Coronavirus vaccine with BioNTech is necessary.
He said the fourth shot, aka, the second booster helps against hospitalization and death, but is not so good against protecting from infection now that the omicron variant is the dominant Covid strain.
Forty-four per cent of Americans have gotten their booster said the CDC and while an uptick in cases in Europe has raised concern, there is little belief a new wave of infections would top the omicron surge of this past Christmas & New Year’s holidays.
The FDA is weighing the data; saying it is reviewing whether a fourth shot will even matter given the breakthrough rate; the Food and Drug Administration is said to be looking at if there is increased protection from infection.
Both Pfizer and Moderna have announced they are working toward a vaccine which can beat back Omicron and a goal is to create a vaccine that can fend off current and coming variants of Sars-CoV-2.
Bourla reminded that Pfizer is working on a vaccine of this nature which will last, he hopes, at least a year.
