#Haiti, March 12, 2022 – The Caribbean Development Bank has set aside $45 million for Haiti to be paid out over the period of 2022 to 2026. The news was announced by CBD Vice President Isaac Solomon at a UN advisory group meeting in Haiti on Wednesday March 2, 2022.

Solomon said the Bank was seeking to ramp up collaboration with humanitarian organizations, civil society organizations, local players and private sector support to foster ways to promote resilience in the country.

At the same time CARICOM said, at its the 33rd Inter-Sessional meeting, the Heads of State would partially explore how CARICOM could be more helpful to Haiti.

“We feel that there is a particular role that we need to play which is to in some ways lead the international community in terms of long term plan for Haiti because a lot of the conversations tend to be around the security issues and crime issues and that is often de linked from fundamental underdevelopment issues.”

This was from Secretary General, Dr Carla Barnett in a press conference Monday February 28, ahead of the meetings’ commencement.

Bennett also said CARICOM would be discussing how best to offer assistance with administrative and electoral processes as well as training Haiti’s security forces.
