#TurksandCaicos, March 3, 2022 – At least two men escaped police custody after a car chase on Monday, but two are also in police custody said to be linked to an illegal sloop landing on February 26.

The Turks and Caicos Police Force in a press statement informed that chase was a joint operation between the TCI Regiment and the Department of Immigration in connection to a migrant vessel that made landfall at split rock Providenciales Sunday night.

It was unknown to the public that the boats made it to shore and how many illegals got in but the TCI Regiment led by Captain Francis Glinton was on the case. Their pursuit of illegals led to the resulting high speed chase which took them into the Millennium Heights residential community, where residents witnessing the action shared what was going on.

The TCI Regiment, responding to that incident encountered the four-door white Suzuki Swift (seen damaged in photographs) and decided to follow it; the driver refused to stop.  There were said to be six occupants of the car.

The Police Report informs that the driver lost control of the car and despite extensive damage from having “flipped over”, some occupants exited and fled into nearby shrubs.

Members of the regiment gave chase and the police report that two people were brought into custody. We have since learned that four others were captured, believed connected to the illegal landing and the subsequent find of narcotics after a search of the Swift.

Suspected marijuana was confiscated in the search. Royal TCI Police says it will be used as evidence in the case.
