#TurksandCaicos, March 21, 2022 – Another government minister has picked up the call for Turks and Caicos Islanders to cooperate with census takers as they ready themselves to carry out the 2022 Census.

Deputy Premier and Minister of Finance E. Jay Saunders gave his appeal in the House of Assembly last week.

The Census, he said held the key to several initiatives the government was planning on implementing.

“The 2022 census will be the most comprehensive data source on the population and housing conditions in the country and will help the government better understand the conditions in which the people of these islands live as we seek to improve the quality of their lives.”

Information from the TCI Census will inform the government on schools, housing demand, water supply, special-needs students, school dropouts and social repercussions etc.

Hon Saunders maintained that assessing the quality and quantity of human capital on a regional and national level was an essential component of a modern government.

The Census is expected to begin in June.
