#TurksandCaicos, February 9, 2022 – Food, gas, electricity, even schooling costs are all skyrocketing in the TCI but when quizzed on the issue of inflation and the stationary status of minimum wage, the Premier admits he does not have the exact rate of inflation and danced around the direct question before admitting a minimum wage increase was not coming anytime soon.

“So at the moment I was unable to establish exactly what the inflation rate is in the Turks and Caicos but I believe it is somewhere between seven and nine percent, based on a rough calculation on the back of an envelope,” Misick said.

He maintained that increasing the minimum wage alone was not the answer as that he said would lead to inflation.

“It doesn’t solve the problem, only increasing the minimum wage, the government as part of a long term solution may increase the minimum wage but I can’t tell you what that minimum-wage would be.”

Despite the response leaning toward minimum wage, there is no bill before the House of Assembly to bring any increase in minimum wage.
