#Australia, February 25 2022 – For the first time in two years Australians with families overseas will be able to see and hug their family members, as the countries border opened to international flights on Monday.

One pair of grandparents made the news meeting their granddaughter for the first time since she was born 13 months ago. There were other tears of joy as the flights were allowed into Australia for the first time in 704 days, following the easing of the country’s strict COVID19 protocols.

The Guardian reports that minister of tourism and industry Dan Tehan said it was a great day for Australia and swore that he would do everything possible to keep the border open.
