#TurksandCaicos, January 28, 2022 – Two people are in police custody and so is their vehicle; they are the duo believed to be responsible for the rape of two women in Providenciales last week.  Police Commissioner Trevor Botting alongside Governor Nigel Dakin, held a press conference and meeting with media to discuss communications and crime.

What appeared to be a series of public relations flops is not quite that explained the two, including the lack of information shared about the rape of two women, reportedly as they made their way home using the popular jitney transportation, was appalling to many residents.

Jitneys are illegal but are widely accepted as the only mode of public transportation which offers inexpensive, late night and a door-step delivery to one’s home.

Botting defended that he had to make a hard decision: say too much and risk losing the suspects who could have retreated into hiding or launch an operation designed to catch the culprits in the case of the sexual assault.

The latter was the route he thought most prudent and the two were caught for the vicious crimes against two women.

The Commissioner revealed there is a void in the police, with no press liaison officer at this time. That job will be filled soon he said.

While it is not the traditional strategy of the Royal TCI Police to speak to crimes on camera or in a format more suited for broadcast news, it was emphatically encouraged by members of the media as important to building stronger community relations.

Up to publication time, there has been no further information on the rape suspects.
