#TurksandCaicos, January 15, 2022 – Premier Washington Misick revealed a swath of plans for various sectors of the Turks and Caicos Islands government in his New Year’s message to the country.
He said “Many projects are ready for implementation in 2022. These include a $12 million to repair and upgrade the Providenciales airport.”
This hefty upgrade will include the long awaited canopy as well as parallel taxiways and a first class terminal building. A population policy commission which would settle legacy immigration issues and set policies on the composition of the islands was also promised.
There were also upgrades for tourism. He said “To transition the tourism industry and achieve stakeholder synergy a Destination (Marketing) Management Organisation and Tourism Authority are approved and funded by the cabinet. Business licence fees will also be written off islandwide.”
Social Aid with also get an injection of cash with $2 million earmarked for pensions for public servants.
Premier Misick said “We are planning for gratuity payments and cost of living adjustments to resume for all public servants on April 1”
Qualifying adults and now special needs children will receive a thousand dollars monthly and Social Enhancement aid for single parent households have been promised a thousand dollars per adult and 500per child a month.
Foster parents have also been promised a $750 increase in their monthly cheques.
To deal more effectively with crime, the premier said $15 million would be allocated to the TCI regiment. He stressed that the government was trying to improve islanders lives and their chances for success
