#TurksandCaicos, January 28, 2022 – A new construction Policy to benefit local contractors is being rolled out by the Turks and Caicos Islands Government. The policy is still in the consultation phase and Arlington Musgrove, (then) acting Minister of Physical Planning & Infrastructure Development led the first of four meetings in Providenciales on Wednesday January 19, to discuss the policy.

Jason Francis explained the rationale for the consultation meetings.

“We have to guarantee that all Turks and Caicos islanders participate in this. Construction is booming if you go up to the Long Beach and other places there are more things being built than ever but if you ask who is building them a lot of these people are freelancers.”

Mr. Francis announced that a Constriction Association was in the works.

Another member of the budding association, only identified as a Mr Been in the meeting which was carried live on Facebook (Shaun Malcolm), was credited as a major influence on the project said.

“We were noticing the rapid growth in the construction industry while the participation of local contractors at the same time is in a decline. The objective behind the Construction Association is to put together an organized body which would act as regulatory body alongside the Government.”

Some goals of the initiative and the policy include a minimum limit for pricing on projects.
